REFURBISHMENT - CLEVELAND STREET INTENSIVE ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL

As part of the NSW Government's plan to re-vitalise inner-city government schools, this important historical and educational site is being restored and refurbished in order to preserve the site's heritage classified buildings and to provide appropriate educational teaching and learning spaces to meet the needs of this school's programs. This web page is dedicated to the progress of the site's restoration and refurbishment, showing "before' and "after" shots of this interesting process.

2003, the scaffolding goes up. As part of the restoration of the site the stone work to the 150 year old structure is being replaced by master stonemasons from the NSW Department of Commerce, Heritage and Building Services team.

39 layers of paint are removed from classrooms in preparation for refurbishment.

Original blackboards are uncovered on the walls.

The blackboards in past years were painted directly onto the walls with a chalk and duster ledge at the base. There was a main blackboard at the front of the room with other blackboards on surrounding walls.

New office area completed, August 2004.
